ICAO SEMINAR ON CARBON MARKETS

(7-9 FEBRUARY 2018 IN ICAO HQ, CR1)

At the 39th Assembly in October 2016, ICAO Member States decided to implement the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) as a complementary measure to address emissions from international aviation to achieve ICAO's aspirational goal of carbon neutral growth from 2020. Offsetting requirements under the scheme are addressed by purchasing and cancelling eligible emissions units from carbon markets.

The ICAO Seminar on Carbon Markets, to be held in Montréal, Canada from 7 to 9 February 2018, aims to enhance understanding of carbon markets and emissions units, including the criteria for eligible emissions units, by sharing information on various aspects of emissions units programmes, mechanisms and projects, which are of interest for the implementation of the CORSIA.

Following an initial panel discussion amongst carbon markets stakeholders regarding the expected information to be shared during the event, the seminar will provide a series of presentations from representatives of emissions units programmes, mechanisms and projects, while not pre-empting any ICAO decisions on eligible emissions units under the CORSIA. As different types of carbon markets exist, presentations during this seminar include: UN mechanisms; programmes and projects in compliance markets; as well as programmes and projects in voluntary markets. Each presentation is assigned a slot of 15 minutes to share information on various aspects regarding their programme, mechanism or project. The presentations are followed by questions and answers.

Come and join the 2.5 days of information exchange and take advantage of the chance to gain more knowledge about emissions units, carbon markets and its relation and role in the CORSIA. The seminar will also be an opportunity for learning, collaboration and networking with renowned speakers and relevant stakeholders, thus contributing to a successful implementation of the CORSIA. An exhibition will complement the seminar, showcasing a broad range of products and services related notably to carbon markets, and emissions units programmes, mechanisms and projects.

During the Seminar an Helpdesk located on 4th floor of the ICAO HQ Conference Building will provide participants with interactive information, explanation and clarification on the CORSIA. Each interested delegation should book an appointment and provide areas of interests and questions beforehand by contacting:
