Environmental Protection

ICAO’s environmental efforts over 2015 focused on the finalization of work in key areas as requested by the 38th Session of the Assembly. These included: climate change, local air quality, noise, and advancing the activities of the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP).

Significant progress was made on the development and facilitation of mitigation measures to reduce CO₂ emissions from international aviation, such as aircraft technology, operational improvements, sustainable alternative fuels for aviation, and a global market-based measure (GMBM), as well as on the implementation support for Member States’ action plans through capacity-building and assistance projects.
